In Meon Vale we’re lucky to have a ‘FoodShare’ project which operates out of the community coffee shop at The Pavilion. This project takes surplus food from local supermarkets and distributes it to local families who are facing difficulties. However, providing food is only part of the story.
As a community we’re great at coming together to support families who might need help to cope with the challenges life throws at us from time to time. Indeed, of the residents who responded to our recent resident’s survey, over half of you thought that Meon Value should have some sort of support centre for local families.
WE’RE NOW WORKING ON AN EXCITING NEW PROJECT TO SET UP A FAMILY OUTREACH CENTRE IN MEON VALE AND WE NEED YOUR HELP.
Graham Lowther from Barnado’s, the children’s charity, has secured funding to help us set up an outreach centre based at The Pavilion and to co-ordinate a programme of support for local families. This joint operation with Barnado’s is called the ‘Meon Vale Families and Children Partnership’ but we don’t have enough volunteers to support it yet. We are looking for two residents from our community to help manage and monitor this partnership.
This will entail meeting approximately once every two months so will not be a huge drain on your time and will start in the New Year. If you’re a people person with a passion for helping those in your community, we’d like to love to hear from you.
Please contact us on email at meonvaleresidents@gmail.com for more information and a chat about what this might entail.
